Indie film fest expands horizons in Honolulu

If you're suffering from rock fever, check out the second annual Cinema Paradise indie film festival, which started yesterday and ends Thursday. There's nothing like foreign and Mainland flicks to bring the world to the Islands.

Offerings include "Drunken Monkey," a Chinese martial arts film; "In Search of Grace," a South African take on surfing, among other pursuits; "Mystic Iran: The Unseen World," which follows a woman's journey into the heart of her native Iran; and "Where's the Party Yaar?" which revolves around the Indian "desi" scene in Texas. For some local flavor, there's "Cockfighters," whose title ought to be self-explanatory.

Check out the full schedule of events in this week's TGIF section. We're just delighted that Brazilian filmmaker Sergio Goes has added Cinema Paradise to the city's arts and cultural mix.
