Kaua'i halts Waimea's KIF undefeated streak

Advertiser Staff

Lihu'e, Kaua'i — Quarterback Kekoa Crowell passed for 263 yards and three touchdowns to lead Kaua'i High to an upset of 11-time defending Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation champion Waimea, 26-12, at Vidinha Stadium last night.

It was Waimea's first league loss since a 10-7 defeat to Kaua'i on Oct. 10, 1997. Since then, the Menehune were 33-0-1 in the KIF. The tie was against Kapa'a, 0-0, in 1999.

Crowell had touchdown passes of 3 yards to Weston Victorino, 23 yards to Justin Arakaki and 30 yards to Kevin Cariente.

Waimea played without running back Jordon Dizon, the KIF Player of the Year last year, who suffered a left-ankle sprain against Kapa'a last week.
