Cornell tops Hawai'i in soccer, 2-0

Emily Knight scored both goals in Cornell's 2-0 victory over Hawai'i in a women's soccer match last night at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium, ending the Rainbows' six-match unbeaten streak.

Knight scored at 6:57 off an assist from Shannon Fraser and added an unassisted goal at 56:58.

Hawai'i (5-2-1) outshot Cornell (4-1-1) 16-8.

The Rainbows' previous loss was in the season opener Aug. 29 against Arizona State.



GOLF

Hickam Invitational: Del-Marc Fujita and Mark Chun share a four-shot lead after the second round of the Hickam Invitational at Mamala Bay Golf Course.

Both golfers are at 141 with Fujita shooting a 70 yesterday and Chun firing a 68.

Shannon Sibayan, Bronson Kalilikane and first-round co-leader Mike Withrow are at 145.

The other first-round co-leader, Joe Phengsavath, is seven strokes off the pace.

The final round is this morning.



MEETINGS

Na Koa: University of Hawai'i head football coach June Jones and receivers coach Ron Lee will discuss the USC and UNLV games at tomorrow's weekly meeting of the Na Koa Football Club at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The coaches will also preview Saturday's Western Athletic Conference opener against Rice.

The luncheon will start at 11:30 a.m.

Honolulu Quarterback Club: University of Hawai'i Athletic Director Herman Frazier, and UH linebackers coach Cal Lee and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh will be the guest speakers at tomorrow's weekly meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant, with the meeting starting at noon.



FITNESS

Harding wins in Las Vegas: Sarah Harding, a 1996 Punahou graduate, won the Ms. Fitness competition Friday in Las Vegas.

Harding, who has a bachelor's and master's degree from Stanford, where she was a gymnast, earned $5,000 for the victory.

Harding was evaluated in three categories, which were beauty, poise and projection (evening gown), physical beauty and muscle tone (swim wear), and strength, flexibility and endurance (fitness wear).



VOLLEYBALL

BYUH topples Western N.M.: Yu Chuan Weng had 20 kills and 15 digs, and Chun Yi Lin added 17 kills and 23 digs as No. 2 Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat Western New Mexico, 30-19, 29-31, 30-15, 30-23, last night in a Pacific West Conference match at Silver City, N.M.

The Seasiders hit .281, while the Mustangs hit .046.

St. Francis graduates Kim Tano and Liz Narkon led Western New Mexico with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Chaminade sweeps Hilo: Kahala Kabalis had 15 kills and Valasi Sepulona added 14 as Chaminade defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 32-30, 30-16, 31-29, last night in Pacific West Conference play at McCabe Gym.

Sara Pilgreen had a match-high 16 kills for the Vulcans.
