Charges are pending.

A taxi cab driver was robbed at knifepoint early yesterday while waiting in his car in a Ke'eaumoku Street parking lot, police said. The robbery occurred at 4:45 a.m.

The 38-year-old cab driver told police that a man in his mid-20s, armed with a knife, took his cash. But the cab driver refused to give up his cab.

The suspect walked away and is still at large, police said.

Moped rider critically hurt

A 49-year-old moped rider was critically injured Saturday by a station wagon whose driver ran a red light on Nimitz Highway in Iwilei.

The male victim was riding a 1994 Yamaha moped north on Pacific Street and was in the intersection when he was struck at 5:46 p.m. by a 2002 Ford Taurus headed east, police said. The Taurus was being driven by a 38-year-old woman.

Police said the unidentified victim was initially conscious at the accident scene but was downgraded to critical after he was taken by ambulance to The Queen's Medical Center. He was placed on life support machines, police said, but his condition was not available.
