Man dies after drug counseling session

Advertiser Staff

A 49-year-old Honolulu man collapsed during drug rehabilitation counseling and later died after possibly taking cocaine prior to the session, police said.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner will need an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The man lived at a Pacific Heights Road address.

The man was attending a counseling session in Kalihi when he had trouble breathing and collapsed, police said.

He was taken to the emergency room of Kuakini Medical Center and died 20 minutes later.

A witness told police that the man had used cocaine 45 minutes before the counseling session.
