Freshman to be in 'Who's Who'

Esera Vegas, a freshman at Kamehameha Schools, has been recognized as having achieved academic excellence and is in the top 5 percent of students in his category in the nation. He will have his biography printed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students." He will also have an opportunity to receive college scholarship money.

When he was 11 years old, he was selected to participate in the Summer Institution On Medicine at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa. He has also traveled extensively as a sports ambassador for the United States.

Esera intends to major in medicine after high school. His grandfather and uncle are medical doctors.


Planner to serve on commission

Becky Hayashida, planner for Group 70 International, has been appointed commissioner for the Rental Housing Trust Fund Commission by Gov. Linda Lingle.

Hayashida is a volunteer with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity, where she serves on the building and finance committees and organizes work teams to build houses on the weekends.

An O'ahu native, she attended graduate school at the University of California at Los Angeles, where she studied architecture. She also has a master's degree in architecture and urban planning from UCLA.


Paralegal board names officers

Mary Peddie, of Char Sakamoto Ishii Lum & Ching, has been elected president of the Hawaii Paralegal Association.
