Critic's Choice

Mini-reviews of current stage productions, by Advertiser theater critic Joseph Rozmiarek

"Bat Boy: The Musical": This satirical cult melodrama based on the tabloid story of a creature that is half boy/half bat provides some stunning visual effects. The cast sings, dances and plays it straight. Repeats at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Manoa Valley Theatre; $30 general; $5 discounts for seniors and military; $15 for those 25 and younger. 988-6131.

"The Guys": A two-character therapeutic drama written shortly after the fall of the World Trade Center towers. Good performances and warm vignettes fill the story of a writer helping a fire captain eulogize his missing men. Presented by The Actors' Group. Repeats at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Yellow Brick Studio; $10 general, $5 for firefighters. 722-6941.
