Seniors urged to sign up for free ID

Advertiser Staff

State, city and private groups will launch a Kupuna ID program today for O'ahu seniors 65 or older who may become disoriented, sick or lost.

Under the program individuals will be able to apply for a free identification card that includes their photo, name and emergency contact information.

The card will assist the Honolulu Police Department and Honolulu Fire Department in identifying lost seniors and helping them contact family members or other appropriate persons.

Seniors will be encouraged to carry the Kupuna ID with them at all times.

Application for the cards will be available:

• Today through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Seniors' Fair at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.

• Oct. 19 from noon to 2 p.m. at McGruff's Keiki and Kupuna Day at Ala Moana Center, Centerstage.

• Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mayor's Cultural Festival at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.

The program is sponsored by the state attorney general's office; the police and fire departments; Hawai'i Medical Services Association; State Farm Insurance; AARP Hawai'i; Alzheimer's Association — Safe Return; City and County Elderly Affairs Division; state Department of Health's Executive Office of Aging; Honolulu Paramedic Association; and the city's Department of Parks and Recreation.
