Honolulu Board of Water Supply officials yesterday reported that consumption of water rose to 161.39 million gallons per day for the week ending Wednesday. There were small increases in water use in five of the six districts on O'ahu, with only the 'Ewa-Wai'anae region showing a decline.
Overall, officials said, the water use report shows some improvement from demand early during the summer, when use averaged closer to 170 million gallons per day. Despite being higher than the previous week, the latest consumption figure is the second-lowest in the past nine weeks.
Water consumption has even dipped below last year's level: Water use for the same week last year was 170.58 million gallons per day, more than 9 million gallons more than last week.
In August, city officials asked for voluntary water conservation. People are asked to restrict the watering of lawns to the hours before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
