Hospital-crash victim identified

The Honolulu Medical Examiner has identified the victim of a freak car crash Tuesday as Nora Okada Hubbard, 75, of Kane'ohe.

Hubbard was at the wheel of a 1994 Subaru that crashed into a retaining wall in the parking lot of Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center, police said. She had stopped at the parking lot ticket booth but dropped her ticket. As she picked it up, the car shot across the lot, police said. The medical examiner ruled that the cause of death was blunt trauma and that her death was an accident.



HONOLULU

Police seek help in man's identity

Honolulu Police and CrimeStoppers are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who was found injured Sept. 15 in Waikiki.

Police said the man was found in front of 1911 Kalakaua Ave. at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 15. He is in critical condition at a local hospital, police said.

The man is described as Caucasian, 60 to 70 years old, 5 feet 6 and 150 pounds. Police said he has white hair, a tattoo of a seagull on his right arm and a tattoo on his left arm. Mo'ili'ili festival tomorrow

The Mo'ili'ili Community Center will be the site of a festival highlighting the cultural and historical background of the community from 3 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

The Mo'ili'ili History Project will present The Lay of the Land from 4 to 5:15 p.m. at the center's studio, with lectures about historic water use in the area and landscape initiatives.



WINDWARD

Coconut Island input sought

A draft environmental impact statement for Coconut Island's long-range plan has been filed with the Office of Environmental Quality Control and is open to comments from the community. The 1998 plan is a vision tool that will be used to expand research at the Hawai'i Institute for Marine Biology.

The plan calls for the development of facilities for applied research activities, education programs and conferences. Send comments to Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology, P.O. Box 1346, Kane'ohe, HI 96744.

Fishpond hosts restoration day

Waikalua Loko Fishpond will have a pond restoration and educational day from 7:30 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the Kane'ohe landmark at the end of Kulauli Street. Volunteers will meet at Pu'ohala Elementary School. City to again run Saturday shuttles

The city will again operate a free Saturday shuttle bus service, with Chinatown Gateway Plaza serving as the hub for most of the routes.

Service begins at 7 a.m. and runs until about 6 p.m., depending on the route. There are six routes from Chinatown: to Kalihi, Wai'anae-Kapolei-Waipahu, Ala Moana-Waikiki-University of Hawai'i, 'Ewa Beach-Pearlridge, Wahiawa-Mililani and Waimanalo-Kailua-Kane'ohe.

A seventh route goes between Windward Mall and the North Shore Marketplace.

Moped rider critically injured

A 44-year-old man was critically injured when he fell off his moped yesterday morning.

Police said the man was traveling west on Nimitz Highway near Sand Island Access Road when he lost control of his moped and fell at 11:10 a.m. The man suffered head injuries and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident was under investigation.
