Time to test your Warrior knowledge

 •  UH, Rice look for fresh start
 •  Different approach, same goal

It is lucky that the NCAA doesn't have a rule establishing minimum standards to be designated a "home" team, otherwise the University of Hawai'i might not qualify tonight.

When the Warriors play Rice at 6:05, it will be their first — and only — appearance of September in Aloha Stadium. To put it in perspective, they nearly missed a whole bus strike.

Not since 1973 has UH been this far into the month before playing its first September "home" game. Of course, back then, "home" was called Honolulu Stadium and June Jones, the fu manchu quarterback, had just transferred to Portland State.

These days, UH home games are becoming like mortgage payments or credit card statements — you get them once month. Once in August. Once in September...

Not until next month, well past the halfway point of the season already, does UH manage — but just barely — to squeeze a second home game into the same month.

But now that they are home, there is the possibility that, with all that has happened in the interim, you might be in need of a refresher course.

So, we offer a quiz to see how well you know your Warriors:

1. The biggest fight in Las Vegas this month was:
a) Oscar De La Hoya vs. Shane Mosely at the MGM Grand.
b) UH fans vs. UNLV fans in the stands at Sam Boyd Stadium.

2. The last time UH played at Aloha Stadium the starting slotbacks were Nate Ilaoa and Chad Owens. This time they are scheduled to be:
a) Whoever made the flight back.
b) The same guys.
c) Se'e Poumele and Ross Dickerson.

3. UH leads the WAC in:
a) Defense.
b) Personal fouls.
c) Passing.
d) All of the above.

4. After the USC game, UH head coach June Jones will:
a) Never complain about WAC officials again.
b) Be hearing "Fight On!" in his sleep.
c) Still want to play the Trojans again.

5. When Jones complained about some of his players being "selfish" at Las Vegas, he was taking about:
a) Guys who cut in line at the buffet table.
b) Players who got personal fouls.
c) Those who won big at the tables and didn't contribute to Na Koa.

If you got all five correct, congrats, you are da fan. Anything less than three correct means you are required to attend the UH-UTEP game.

The answers: 1. "b"; 2. "c"; 3. "d"; 4. "c"; 5. "b".
