O'ahu senior citizens who are at risk of becoming disoriented, sick or lost can obtain an identification card that includes their picture, name and emergency contact information.

The Kupuna ID Project is sponsored by the state attorney general's office, Honolulu police and fire departments, HMSA and State Farm Insurance.

The identification card is not an official government card, but it is intended to assist emergency personnel in identifying a senior citizen who may be in trouble and in contacting responsible parties. Also, if a senior citizen gets lost, the missing person's information can be disseminated with permission of the family to aid in the recovery of the person.

To obtain a Kupuna ID card, a person must be at least 65 years old. Applications can be obtained on the following dates:

• Today, Seniors' Fair, Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Oct. 19, McGruff's Keiki and Kupuna Day, Ala Moana Center Centerstage, noon to 2 p.m.

• Nov. 15, Mayor's Cultural Festival, Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For information, call the attorney general's office at 586-1444.
