Key House votes
1. Legislative branch spending
On Wednesday, the House passed, 371-56, a bill that would allocate $3.5 billion for the legislative branch for fiscal 2004. A "yea" vote was to pass the bill.

What's ahead:Congress must complete work on bills to finance the government for the new fiscal year that begins Wednesday. A temporary spending bill expires Oct. 31. The Senate will continue work on a District of Columbia spending bill that includes a voucher program for public schools. It also hopes to take up President Bush's $87 billion request for Iraq. The House is working on minor legislation while it waits for agreement on a number of conflicting House and Senate bills.
