Ins and outs of getting into a university

An journalist who learned the college admission process from the inside out and other insiders will be on hand for a panel discussion tomorrow at Iolani School, featuring Jacques Steinberg, New York Times reporter and author of the best-selling book, "The Gate Keepers: Inside the Admission Process of a Premier College."

"The Admissions Maze" event takes place in Iolani School's Seto Hall (in the Weinberg Building), with a reception at 6:30 p.m., discussion 7 to 8 p.m., and book signing at 8:15 p.m.

Steinberg spent nearly a year observing the admission process at Wesleyan University. This unusual access resulted in a series of New York Times articles, and eventually in his book.

Also on the panel: Derrick Kang, Iolani School counselor and former assistant admissions director for Seattle University, and Missy Rose, Punahou School college counselor and former associate director of undergraduate admissions at Duke University.

"The Admissions Maze" is sponsored by the New York Times and Iolani School. It is free and open to the public, with parking available in the school parking garage.
