Advertiser Staff and News Services

Tonight, downtown and Chinatown art studios open their doors for the first-Friday-of-the-month "Gallery Walk," from 5 to 9 p.m.

Get in early for a good cause at Bonnie's Closet (1026 Nu'uanu Ave.), where from noon to 7 p.m. you can view paintings by Muscular Dystrophy Association clients. Their work will be auctioned off April 16 at the 5th Annual Soiree "Vegas in Paradise," a tasting event and MDA benefit (info: 548-0588) held at the Royal Hawaiian.

La Pietra 'Sings'

Shari Lynn, veteran Island entertainer and music teacher at La Pietra-Hawaii School for Girls, will be at Disneyland today when her students perform at the Plaza Gardens, across from Sleeping Beauty's Castle.

The appearance — part of America Sings, a nonprofit organization which enables school and community chorales to perform in noncompetitive festivals — was the result of a videotape audition.

Lynn managed to sidestep a live tryout and sent a tape — and received a green light from Disney to appear at the theme park.

The spring-break trip also includes an attempt by America Sings to gather the largest group of choral singers ever in Long Beach, Calif., in an attempt to break the world record.

When Lynn returns home, she begins rehearsals in the title role in Diamond Head Theatre's "Hello, Dolly!"

Life after Martha
