Bender named MPSF Player of the Week

University of Hawai'i outside hitter Matt Bender was named Molten Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball Player of the Week today.

Bender, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from Tucson, Ariz., had 52 kills in two five-game matches against Long Beach State last week.

In the Warriors' victory over Long Beach State on Friday, Bender had a career-high 27 kills and two aces. He also had five block assists and four digs.

In UH's loss to the 49ers on Saturday, Bender had 25 kills, three digs and six block assists.

Bender is the first Hawai'i player to win the MPSF award this season.

UH's Mauli'a LaBarre was named national Player of the Week in February.
