Woman struck by van dies

An 84-year-old Kaimuki woman struck by a van Monday while crossing Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki died last night at The Queen’s Medical Center.

The woman was hit by a van making a turn from Launiu Street onto Kuhio Avenue at 9:42 a.m. Monday.

The death is O'ahu’s 20th traffic fatality of the year as compared with 25 on the same date last year. Nine of 20 traffic deaths this year have involved pedestrians.

Man killed in crash identified

The medical examiner’s office today identified the 28-year-old man killed yesterday in the crash of his pickup truck on Farrington Highway near the Ko Olina Resort offramp as Kelly Momoa, a former football standout for Wai'anae High School and College of the Redwoods.

Momoa was an adult corrections officer at the Waiawa Correctional Facility.

Baby’s injuries investigated

Police have opened a first-degree assault investigation after medical tests indicated critical injuries suffered by a 3-month-old Waipahu girl are the result of shaken baby syndrome. The infant is at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children.

No one has been arrested, said HPD’s acting child sex-abuse Lt. Lisa Mann, but investigators plan to question the child’s primary caretakers.

Man arrested in attack on jogger

A 20-year-old man was arrested last night on suspicion of grabbing a woman jogger and threatening her with a knife at Kapi'olani Park.

The woman, 31, bit her assailant’s hand and screamed, attracting the attention of a police officer who was nearby. The man was arrested at 8:43 p.m. on Paki and Monsarrat avenues and booked for kidnapping and first-degree terroristic threatening.
