Officer thwarts attack on jogger
A police officer happened to be in the right place at the right time Tuesday night to interrupt an attack on a woman jogger at Kapi'olani Park.
The officer was checking out an all-terrain vehicle used for patrolling the park and beach area at the Honolulu Police Department's storage shed at Kap'iolani Park when he saw a woman being dragged into nearby brush at about 8:45 p.m. The officer's intervention led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on suspicion of kidnapping and terroristic threatening.
Police last night added an additional count of attempted first-degree sex assault after questioning the man.
The woman, 31, was jogging near Paki and Monsarrat avenues when she was allegedly grabbed from behind by a man, who held a knife to her neck.
