Man killed in Big Island crash

A California man was killed and eight people injured yesterday in a three-vehicle collision on the Hawai'i Belt Road near Honomu.

The victim was identified as Richard S. Honda, 61, of Fairfield, Calif., Hawai'i County police said.

Police said Honda was driving a Dodge van with six passengers when the northbound van crossed the center line at about the 12.7-mile marker and collided head-on with a DHL Worldwide Express van. A Nissan 240SX traveling behind the DHL van then ran into the Dodge.


Man arrested in attack on jogger

A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of grabbing a woman jogger in Kapi'olani Park and threatening her with a knife.

The woman, 31, bit her assailant's hand and screamed, attracting the attention of a police officer who was nearby. The man was arrested at 8:43 p.m. at Paki and Monsarrat avenues and booked for kidnapping and first-degree terroristic threatening.
