Don Memmer, center, took two hours to haul in this blue marlin he caught while fishing with Joe Scazzola, left, and Roy Koga. The Hilo residents caught the fish estimated to weigh 350 pounds while fishing off the Hilo side of the Big Island. "When it first hit, I didn't know how big it was," says Memmer, a teacher and boys soccer coach at Hilo High School. "It was fun, it was great." Memmer says he smoked some of the marlin and "I probably gave about 200 pounds away," he says. "I think everyone in Hilo had marlin."
