UH-Hilo baseball ends losing streak at 11

Clay Daugherty pitched a two-hit shutout as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Sacramento State, 5-0, yesterday to end the Vulcans' 11-game losing streak.

The Hornets won the first game of the doubleheader at Francis Wong Stadium, 4-2.

Daugherty faced 24 batters, walked one and struck out two. Both games were seven innings.

Hilo's Kaliko Oligo batted 5 for 7 with two RBIs and two doubles in the doubleheader.

Hilo improved to 8-33, while Sacramento State fell to 21-21.

Triathlon

Athletes, coaches to speak: Triathlon athletes and coaches will be featured speakers for high school students at Punahou and Roosevelt.

Next Tuesday, USA triathlon Olympic coach Gale Bernhardt and national triathlon program director Libby Burrell will give the students of Punahou a sports psychology class — an inside track on how to mentally prepare for a triathlon.

On Friday, the students of Roosevelt will be visited by triathlon gold medalist Simon Whitfield, of Canada; Australian Greg Bennett, the top-ranked man in the world; and Laura Reback, the No. 2-ranked female triathlete in the world.

ARENA FOOTBALL

Kikaida will be at Islanders' home opener: Kikaida, the popular '70s super-powered android, will appear at the Hawaiian Islanders' arenafootball2 home opener April 17 at Blaisdell Arena.

His appearance is part of the Meadow Gold Dairies Family FANFest, which starts at 4:30 p.m. Volume 7 of the Kikaida DVD will be available.

Fans can take pictures with Kikaida before the game against Bossier-Shreveport. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Islanders play a road game today against the Louisville Fire.
