Key House votes

The House was in recess this week.



Key Senate votes

1. Medical malpractice

The Senate on Wednesday rejected, 49-48, an attempt to bring up a bill that would curb medical malpractice lawsuits against obstetricians and emergency room doctors. A yea vote was to consider the bill.

Hawai'i votes: Daniel Akaka (D) NAY; Dan Inouye (D) NAY

2. Pension plans

The Senate on Thursday passed, 78-19, a bill that would provide $80 billion over the next two years to single employer pension plans. A yea vote was to pass the bill and send it to President Bush.

Hawai'i votes: Daniel Akaka (D) DID NOT VOTE; Dan Inouye (D) YEA

What's ahead: The House and Senate are in recess. Congress returns April 19.
