Man’s wife held after shooting

Police arrested a 44-year-old 'Ewa woman last night after her estranged husband was shot and another woman was threatened during an argument at a home on the 2600 block on Kalihi Street.

The man, 43, was shot in the chest at about 10 p.m. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, according to Kaipo Asing, Emergency Medical Services district chief.

The 44-year-old woman was treated at Queen's for a head injury suffered in a fall, possibly from being shoved. She was treated and released. Police then booked her at 10:30 p.m. on suspicion of attempted murder, first-degree terroristic threatening and a firearm offense.

Box jellyfish warning issued

City lifeguards have issued a box jellyfish warning for tomorrow and Wednesday.

People who know they have allergic reactions to stings are urged to stay out of the water on those days.

The most commonly affected beaches for the monthly invasion are at Ala Moana and Waikiki, but swimmers may encounter the stinging jellyfish at Hanauma Bay, Waimea Bay, 'Ehukai, Sunset Beach, Poka'i Bay, Ma'ile and Makaha.

Beaches will be monitored by lifeguards, who will post signs if the jellyfish arrive. Lifeguards can treat the stings, which can be soothed by applying copious amounts of vinegar.

A 24-year-old man was charged yesterday in the rape of a 24-year-old woman Saturday at a Pearl City residence.

Anthony Nathan Kassebeer is charged with two counts of first-degree sex assault and is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail. The high bail is being requested because Kassebeer presents a danger to the 24-year-old victim, police said.

3 face charges in kidnapping

A 39-year-old Wai'anae man was charged Saturday with kidnapping and three firearm offenses after a 33-year-old man and a woman, 24, were forced into a van Friday at Ma'ili Beach Park and told to drive to a Wai'anae shopping mall.

While at the mall, the male victim was assaulted by two other men who accused him of "talking bad" about a mutual acquaintance, police said.

Anthony Soares was charged with kidnapping and the firearm offenses, including being a felon in possession. Jonah Hoopili, 36, and Solomon Kawai, 34, were charged with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
