Kalani edges Castle in baseball

Wilson Kato singled, then scored the go-ahead run after two Castle errors in the top of the seventh inning yesterday to lead Kalani to a 3-2 victory over Castle in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division baseball game at Castle.

Kalani improved to 4-1. Castle is 1-5.

Kalani's Randy Kitagawa pitched the last two innings to earn the victory.

HPU 4, Biola 2: Brandon Sato and Chase Nakamura each hit solo home runs to lift Hawai'i Pacific last night to a college baseball victory over Biola (Calif.) in the first game of a doubleheader at Aloha Stadium.

The second game of the doubleheader ended after the deadline for this edition of The Advertiser.

HPU is 22-20; Biola 27-8-1.

Lahainaluna 6, Maui 1: Catcher Charles Wallace batted 3 for 4, including a solo home run and a two-run single, to help lift Lahainaluna to a victory over Maui in a Maui Interscholastic League baseball game yesterday at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.

Lahainaluna is 9-1, Maui 7-3. Baldwin leads the MIL at 10-0.

Wallace hit his homer in the fifth inning. His single in the second inning scored Tyler Fujiwara and Preston Medeiros.

Fujiwara gave up four hits in a complete-game victory.

Iolani is 7-1. Mid-Pacific is 2-6.

BYUH, Chaminade split: Lisa Hansen pitched a four-hitter to lead Brigham Young Hawai'i to a 1-0 victory over Chaminade yesterday in a split of a non-conference doubleheader at La'ie.

Natalie Alcala drove in three runs in Chaminade's 4-2 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Shea Seever drove in Chynna Wilcox with a double for the game's only run.

BYUH is 11-6, Chaminade 9-26.
