Question: Who has been growing out the hair under their arms for the past week or so?

Answer: The female competitors in the Merrie Monarch Festival Hula competition. They allow themselves to get a bit hirsute, the better to wax their underarms a day or two before show, for a pristine, smooth appearance. Ouch!

Keep your eyes on the armpits tonight when the Merrie Monarch Miss Aloha Hula competition gets under way at 6 p.m. on KITV-Channel 4. And check out Wanda Adams' online reports around and about the festival.

Get a prom makeover

Need a little help to get ready for your prom date? Macy's Hawaii and Columbia Pictures have partnered to give a teen the star treatment for prom. In coordination with the new movie "13 going on 30," girls can enter to win a glam makeover in the junior wardrobe department at Ala Moana, Pearlridge, Kahala, Windward and Kailua locations.

The top prize includes a dress ($200 value), a makeover and passes to "13 Goin on 30." Entry is free, but the deadline is April 26. For more information, call Macy's at 945-5894.

Simplifying support

Parents who owe child support have another option for making payments: Western Union. Hawai'i courts are working with Western Union Financial Services in an effort to improve child-support collection rates.

Those who owe can make a cash payment at any Western Union location, by phone at (800) 325-6000 with Visa, MasterCard or Discover, or online at www.westernunion.com. Payment is sent electronically to the Hawaii Child Support Enforcement Agency; the service fee is $9.95.
