Three people were killed and three others injured in a one-car crash in the Wilson Tunnel on Likelike Highway this afternoon. The Honolulu-bound lanes are closed while police investigate.

Two women were taken to The Queen's Medical Center with critical injuries and a third person was in guarded condition, said Sgt. Alan Vegas of the police traffic division. The accident was reported at 3:15 p.m.

The three people pronounced dead at the scene were two adult women and a young male, possibilty a teenager, police said. The male was thrown from the vehicle.

All six people were in a white Chevrolet Blazer traveling toward Honolulu. The SUV may have been speeding, Vegas said. The SUV crashed into the left side of the tunnel entrance on the Windward side. The road curves to the right just before the tunnel entrance.

The Honolulu-bound lanes were expected to be closed until at least after sundown. Police are diverting townbound traffic to the H-3 Freeway. The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists to take the H-3 or Pali highways.
