Miss Aloha Hula competition results

At last night's Merrie Monarch Festival Miss Aloha Hula competition, Sonny Ching's Halau Na Mamo 'O Pu'uanahulu, scored a back-to-back win, seeing their candidate, Natasha Mahealani Akau, receive the gold bracelet just minutes after the farewell dance of their 2003 entrant, Jennifer Kehaulani Oyama.

This is the fifth back-to-back win in the 33 years of Miss Aloha Hula competition.

Here are the competition results:

4th Runner Up: Nicole Moani Taylor, Ke Kai O Kahiki, 1,089 points.

3rd Runner Up: Bianca Keopuolani Rapu Leitel, Halau I Ka Wekiu, 1,099 points.

2nd Runner Up: Natasha Lokelani Lopez, Halau Mohala 'Ilima, 1,104 points.

1st Runner Up: Kellilynn Kanoelani Cockett Smith, Halau Hula Olana. 1,105 points.

Miss Aloha Hula 2004: Natasha Mahealani Akau, 1,149 points.

Voting for the Hawaiian language award, given to the entrant who demonstrates the best understanding of the use of the language, resulted in the first three-way tie in Merrie Monarch history. The third candidate, whose name was not released, was eliminated by a tie-breaker, leaving two entrants to share the award: Natasha Lokelani Lopez of Halau Mohala 'Ilima and Natasha Mahealani Akau of Halau Na Mamo 'O Pu'uanahulu , each with 47 points, 65 tie-breaker points.
