48,000 came in first quarter

The Hawai'i Convention Center had 15 major conventions with 48,000 conventioneers in the first three months of the year. The events generated an estimated $129.5 million in visitor spending and $10.7 million in state tax revenue.



Airline's leases extended again

A U.S. bankruptcy judge yesterday granted Hawaiian Airlines a ninth extension on its aircraft leases with Boeing Capital Corp, to May 31.

The carrier leases 11 Boeing 717-200 aircraft for its interisland flights and three Boeing 767-300ER for its transpacific flights.

Hawaiian filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in March 2003.



Island Colony to change operator

The hotel condominium Island Colony at 445 Seaside Ave. will change management firms from Marc Hotels and Resorts Inc. to either self-management or another arrangement on June 1.

The new operator is expected to hire most or all of the 49 employees affected. Castle Resorts & Hotels will handle marketing.
