MICHAEL KUEBLER

Michael Kuebler capped an award-winning season with the top award at the University of Hawai'i men's basketball awards banquet last night at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel.

Kuebler, a 6-foot-4 senior guard, won the Art Woolaway Most Outstanding Player award. He led the Rainbow Warriors with 18.1 points per game and set a UH record with 97 3-pointers.

Last month, he became the first UH men's basketball player to earn first-team Academic All-America honors. He was also a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection.

"When you look at the perfect balance, he was it as far as getting it done in athletics and academics," Hawai'i head coach Riley Wallace said. "From his junior year to his senior year, he worked on improving his overall game and it paid off."

Senior forward Phil Martin was named the Best Defensive Player. He is the first player in UH history to earn the award in three consecutive years.

Senior forward Paul Jesinskis was named the Most Inspirational Player, and senior guard Jason Carter was named Most Improved Player.

The 'Bows finished 21-12 this season, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament.
