It ain't really spring if it ain't got some swing. Diamond Head Theatre's "Swing! Into Spring," a mid-thaw fundraiser, is set for 6 p.m. Friday at the Waialae Country Club. The PBS Little Big Band (Honolulu jazz pros Gabe Baltazar, Rich Crandall, Phil and Bob Scellato, Chuck James, Ernie Provencher and Brien Matson) and vocalist Keahi Conjugacion provide the boogie woogie. DHT's "Swing!" cast throws down some tunes. 3660 On The Rise brings on the eats.
Get tickets ($85, tables for 10 at $1,000) at 733-0277, ext. 306. And lest you forget, daddy-o: Pencil in the Hawaii International Jazz Festival's "Swingtime in Hawaii" showcase (www.Hawaiijazz.com), 7 p.m. July 30 at the Hawai'i Theatre.
Teens and pills
Know what pills your teen is popping? According to Criminal Justice Statistics, 1 million 12- to 17-year-olds are taking steroids or performance-enhancing drugs for sports improvement or aesthetic purposes.
Bagging that diaper
Julie George of Hawai'i Kai bought her MotherShip diaper bag for its many features: It can be carried as a shoulder bag or backpack; its strap is the right length to fit over her stroller, its color (red) matches her 17-month-old daughter Gracie's stroller, and it can stash not only diapers but a sippy cup, snacks, books, crayons, cell phone, water bottle and the contents of Mom's purse. It's also cool enough to be carried by dad Terry to a UH-Manoa basketball game.
Brooke Shields, Uma Thurman, Keanu Reeves and Kate Winslet also carry the MotherShip. But Hollywood style comes at a price: The bags range from $144 to $174 at Riches Kahala.
