HPD officer's tumor benign

Roger Malu Napoleon
Roger Malu Napoleon, 33, the police officer who went to Colorado earlier this month to have a cancerous tumor removed from his liver, has come through surgery with positive results, said Lt. Frank Fujii, with the Honolulu Police Department.

Although one-third of Napoleon's liver was removed, tests showed the tumor was benign, Fujii said.

Initial tests had indicated the tumor was cancerous and Napoleon, who lives in Waimanalo, had undergone cancer treatment that shrank the tumor before leaving for the surgery. Once his liver is stabilized it is expected to regenerate. If Napoleon's recovery continues as hoped, he will return to Hawai'i on Saturday, Fujii said.
