Rowena Horner, nurse, wife of bank president, dead at 44

Rowena Leilani Nishimori Horner, a nurse and wife of First Hawaiian Bank president Don Horner, died yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center. She was 44.

Rowena Horner was born in Seoul, South Korea, on Aug. 22, 1959. She grew up in Hawai'i and graduated from Waimea High School on Kaua'i.

Horner received a nursing degree from the University of Hawai'i and worked as an oncology nurse at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Kaua'i and at Queen's.

"Even through her illness, she had the strength to see everything as a blessing and it was a blessing for the rest of us to see the world through her eyes," her husband said.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Matthew and Alexander.

Visitation is at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu; service is at noon.

Donations may be made to the Christian Scholarship Fund at Iolani School or to the American Cancer Society.
