UH women's golf in fifth

The University of Hawai'i women's golf team fell a spot to fifth place yesterday after the second day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships at Underwood Golf Course in El Paso, Texas.

Hawai'i's Sara Odelius is tied for seventh at 75—152. Fellow freshman Dale Gammie is alone in 10th at 84—153.

San Jose State's Ashley Gomes is atop the leaderboard at 1-under 141.

Hawai'i has a two-day total of 629, 29 strokes behind leader San Jose State. Second-place Tulsa trails by one stroke.

The tournament ends today.



SAILING

Pacific Coast Women's Championship on tap: The University of Hawai'i women's sailing team will host the 2004 Pacific Coast Championships at Ke'ehi Lagoon Saturday and Sunday.

Four of the top 15 teams in the country will be competing, including No. 7 USC, No. 8 Stanford, No. 12 Hawai'i and No. 14 UC Santa Barbara. Nine teams will take part in the regatta.

Races begin at 10 a.m. both days.



TRACK & FIELD

Monroe wins long jump: University of Hawai'i's Tasha Monroe won the long jump at the Mt. SAC Relays this past weekend at Walnut, Calif. Monroe, a junior, leaped 19 feet, 7 inches.

UH's Novelle Murray threw the discus a personal best 162 feet, 5 inches. The throw is the third best in the Western Athletic Conference this season.

UH's Kelsey Smith placed fourth in the javelin at 133-08, and Olivia Smoody equaled her season-best in the high jump at 5-4 1/4.
