Arson blamed in Kalihi fire

Three vehicles were destroyed by a fire in a Kalihi parking structure that authorities say was deliberately set. Fire department spokesman Capt. Kennison Tejada said an ignitable liquid was used to start the 10:37 a.m. fire on the top floor of a parking structure at 420 Waiakamilo Road.

A 1991 Jeep Wrangler, a 1988 Toyota and a 1991 Honda were reported destroyed by the fire; three other cars sustained minor damages. Damage estimates totaled $24,000 for the vehicles and $10,000 to the structure.

Department of Human Services spokesman Derick Dahilig said two of the vehicles are assigned to Child Protective Services and one to Adult Protective Services.

Arraignment in drug, gun case

A 29-year-old man was re-arrested yesterday and arraigned today in Circuit Court on drug and firearm charges stemming from an arrest April 5 in Keolu Hills.

James A. Tamayo is charged with first- and second-degree promotion of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and four firearm offenses. His bail is $60,000.

On April 5, police searched a vehicle Tamayo was driving and said they seized 16 packets of crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale, and a semiautomatic pistol with 15 bullets.
