PHILADELPHIA — The last time Mike Lowell had a game like this, he was swinging an aluminum bat in college.

The last time Punahou School and Stanford alum Justin Wayne picked up a win was two years ago.

Lowell homered three times and Luis Castillo hit a sacrifice fly in the 12th inning to send the Florida Marlins to their eighth straight victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-7, last night.

Lowell led off the ninth with a tying shot off All-Star closer Billy Wagner, who blew his first save with the Phillies. The Marlins third baseman also hit a solo shot off Eric Milton in the second and a two-run drive off Tim Worrell in the seventh, becoming the first player in team history to connect three times in one game.

It was the first three-homer game in the majors this season.

"I didn't get caught up in the at-bats because we were trying to come back," Lowell said. "It was a career day. I did it in tee ball and once in college (at Florida International) my sophomore year."

Wayne (1-0) relieved Armando Benitez to start the 11th and walked one and struck out one in two innings.

The last time Wayne won in the majors was in 2002, when he was 2-3 with Florida. Last season, he was 0-2 with an 11.81 ERA with the Marlins.
