HOLES IN ONE
Good reason to smile after ace

MANNY RELATOR
April 25, 2003
Ted Makalena
Hole No. 4, 150 yards, 6-iron

I originally had chosen a 7-iron for my tee shot. As I walked to the tee box, I had second thoughts of "never up, never down."

I went with the 6-iron and I hit a shot that went straight for the pin, but appeared to be long.

The terrain around the hole made it difficult to see where the ball ended up, but I feared I had gone long.

As we approached the green, I could see a white ball past the green and on the fringe.

I started walking toward the ball, and then I remembered: I had hit a yellow ball.

At that moment, my cart partner, Roy Kimura, yelled out: "It's in the hole!"

I walked to the hole, peeked down and there was my yellow ball with its distinctive smiling face (my identification mark).
