In a trance with Kimball Collins

Trance master Kimball Collins, right, returns yet again to Waikiki to hypnotize the masses with his progressive DJ-ing style. The Florida native appears at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki's weekly Saturday Feng Shui night, alongside sizzling house DJ Mark Grant of Chicago. Resident DJs IKON, Daniel J, G-Spot, Delve.Oneder and XL balance out the night. Come join the harmony from 9:30 p.m. until 2 a.m., for 21 and older. Storming in from London

Tonight's weather forecast calls for clear skies, light trades and a wild Storm — that's DJ Storm, right, who's breezing in from London for a stint at Indigo's weekly Get Fresh! hot spot. Her drum-n-bass sounds are sure to keep the dance floors moving as they did last time she wreaked havoc on the Island. Local DJs Compose, Eskae, DJ Mark, Sovergn-T and G-Spot mix it up in the other rooms for some house, hip-hop, R&B and dancehall sounds. The music of Kaskade at NiteLite

House music producer and DJ Kaskade sparks up Saturday night when deep-house monthly NiteLite goes all out for its one-year anniversary. The Chicago-born and San Francisco-based legend will also celebrate the release of his latest album on OM Records, "In the Moment." Resident DJs Reid, Eugene and Kawika keep it happening throughout the night. The blast happens from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Meritage on Restaurant Row. Earth Day celebrations continue

Earth Day may have been observed on Thursday, but that's no reason to stop celebrating. Keep the spirit of Earth Day alive on Saturday by attending these free festivities:

  • Join the Friends of He'eia State Park for an Earth Day Celebration cleaning up He'eia stream from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meet by the main building in the back of the park to clean the fringing reef of invasive limu, followed by a recreational ride in clear-bottom kayaks. Lunch will be served. 247-3156.
  • Learn about conservation and stewardship during Ala Wai (above) Watershed Awareness Day. Sponsored by the City and County Department of Environmental Services and the Ala Wai Watershed Association, the day includes free educational watershed trolley tours and interactive displays from 26 environmental organizations. Local entertainment includes performances by Hula Halau Olana, George Kuo and Jordan Segundo. It all takes place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Kapi'olani Park Bandstand. 955-7882.
  • Ho'ala School in Wahiawa hosts the Earth Arts Family Festival from noon to 7 p.m. There'll be hands-on nature art activities for the whole family, such as paper making, lauhala weaving and coconut painting. Folks can also learn to build sculptures from driftwood and recycled materials. The fun includes healthy local foods, country store and silent auction. Entertainment includes music, dance and drama performances. 621-1898.


Bluegrass meets slack-key

The Bluegrass Beat meets Hawaiian Heat series continues at Kapono's Sunday with a meeting of steel-string guitars. Local slack-key legend George Kahumoku Jr. and bluegrass flatpicking guitarist Dan Crary, take the stage in the second of this three-concert series. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $18 general and $10 for children 11-16. At the door, tickets will be $23 general and $12 for children 11-16. Those 10 and younger get in free. 545-2820.

Crary also hosts a workshop and master jam session the day before at The ARTS at Marks Garage. The program starts at 1 p.m. Saturday with a wine and cheese reception, followed by a jam workshop; and closes with a master jam led by Crary ending at 4 p.m. Workshop participants are $11 advance or $14 at the door. Nonmusicians who just want to listen pay $6. Reservations: 622-1077.


Celebrating Don Ho

The incomparable Don Ho is the guest of honor at "An Evening of Aloha," 6 p.m. Sunday at the Hawai'i Theatre. A number of special guests, including Sam Kapu, Marlene Sai, Frank De Lima, Andy Bumatai, Henry Kapono, Melveen Leed, The Makaha Sons and Don's daughter Hoku Ho, will pay tribute to the Island musical icon whose hits include "Tiny Bubbles" and "I'll Remember You." The man himself will take the stage during the finale. Tickets are $30-$65, and each member of the audience will receive a souvenir keepsake book created for the evening. 528-0506.


Songs from around the world

Go on "A Musical Journey" when the Hawai'i Pacific University International Chorale and Vocal Ensemble presents their second annual spring concert Sunday. The concert offers a mix of songs from Austria, Brazil, Canada, Hawai'i and other U.S. states, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Philippines and Zimbabwe. Members of the Iolani School concert orchestra appear as special guests. The concert starts at 4:30 p.m. in St. Andrew's Cathedral. Admission is free, but donations are welcome to help the vocal ensemble perform at Carnegie Hall this summer. 544-1127.
