Arson suspected in Kalihi parking lot

Three vehicles were destroyed by a fire Wednesday in a Kalihi parking structure that authorities say was deliberately set. Fire department spokesman Capt. Kennison Tejada said an ignitable liquid was used to start the 10:37 a.m. fire on the top floor of a parking structure at 420 Waiakamilo Road.

A 1991 Jeep Wrangler, a 1988 Toyota and a 1991 Honda were reported destroyed by the fire; three other cars sustained minor damages. Damage estimates totaled $24,000 for the vehicles and $10,000 to the structure.

Repeat robber may have hit bank

The McCully branch of American Savings Bank was robbed yesterday by a man who police believe may have robbed three other banks in the past eight months.

Police said the man handed a teller a demand note about 4:30 p.m., stating he was armed. The man was handed an undetermined amount of money and ran away on McCully Street.

Police said the man is suspected of robbing the Central Pacific Bank Kalihi branch on April 17, the American Savings Bank Liliha branch on April 5, and the Hawai'i National Bank airport branch on Aug. 1, 2003.
