Cockheran, Peters sign free-agent contracts

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Jeremiah Cockheran, a former University of Hawai'i wide receiver, has agreed to join the Cincinnati Bengals as a free agent.

Contract terms have not been finalized, but Cockheran said he will sign a two-year deal, which includes a signing bonus. In the case of all NFL contracts, only the signing bonus is guaranteed.

Cockerhan will report to the Bengals' minicamp on Friday.

The Bengals are "the best fit for me," he said. "They're an up-and-coming team."

Meanwhile, former UH safety Hyrum Peters has signed a two-year guaranteed contract with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.

Peters will be reunited with former UH linebacker Robert Grant on the CFL's defending Gray Cup champion.

"It's the best thing for me," Peters said. "I'll still be playing football."
