UH golfer Kodama captures title

University of Hawai'i golfer Matt Kodama won a three-way playoff with a birdie on the first playoff hole to capture the Ping Golf Cougar Classic at Provo, Utah, yesterday. The senior picked up the second individual title of his career and the first for a Warrior since Kodama won the 2001 UH/Turtle Bay Intercollegiate.

Kodama shot a 3-under 69 in the final round to get into the playoff and was tied with Colorado State's Martin Laird and Brigham Young University's Ronn Harvey.

UH jumped up three spots to finish the tournament in eighth place with a total of 871. Colorado State won the team title with an 845.



FOOTBALL

• UH season tickets for faculty, students to go on sale: Football season tickets for University of Hawai'i students, faculty and staff will go on sale Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center box office.

Prices for faculty and staff are $114, plus a premium seat donation. The premium fee is $62.50 for orange LL (rows 1-23, seats 1-10) and for orange KK and JJ, rows 1-5. For orange HH, rows 1-5, the cost is $32.50 and for orange PP, all seats, it is $17.50. All levels and sections in RR and SS do not have a premium seat donation.

For a faculty and staff guest, the cost is $145, plus the premium seat donation, which is the same as for the staff and faculty.

For students, the cost is $77 with no donation required. Student guests are $145, plus the premium seat donation, which is the same as for the staff and faculty.

A lottery system will be used for UH faculty and staff. People can pick up a lottery number from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday. The lottery will determine who will be sold tickets first, and sales will continue until all lottery holders have been serviced. Anyone arriving after 9 a.m. will be required to wait until the lottery participants are served.

Student tickets will go on sale Saturday at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The earliest students can get in line will be 7 a.m.

Ticket sales will continue on May 3 at the Stan Sheriff Center and the UH campus center box office during regular business hours.

SOFTBALL

• Nevada sweeps UH: The University of Hawai'i softball team dropped a pair of Western Athletic Conference games yesterday at Nevada.

Hawai'i (24-29, 6-10 WAC) lost the opener 4-3 in 14 innings and dropped the nightcap, 3-0 to Nevada (32-24, 7-7).

In the first game, UH scored one run in the 14th, only to have Nevada rally for two in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Melissa Coogan (9-16) took the loss in both games for Hawai'i.



SAILING

UH women lead event: The University of Hawai'i women's sailing team leads the pack at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Women's Championship at Ke'ehi Lagoon after the first day of competition yesterday.

Hawai'i has an eight-point lead over Stanford. The Rainbow Wahine finished second in the A division by accumulating 32 points and are also second in the B division with 25 points.

Racing continues today.



QUARTERBACK CLUB

Keiter to be honored: Les Keiter, the veteran sports broadcaster, will be honored at the Honolulu Quarterback Club tomorrow.

The luncheon at the Pagoda Ballroom begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program will start at noon.
