COCONUT WIRELESS: "American Idol" finalist Camile Velasco turned heads when she was shopping last week in Honolulu. She was recognized, for instance, in the Guess store, where she browsed — but didn't buy. Despite her departure from the "Idol" competition, she's emerged as a celeb. Velasco fit in a Las Vegas vacation (yes, she was recognized) before returning to the Islands. ...

E-mails have been filling our mailbox about the fate of another former "Idol" contestant. An early contender, Mary Irene Filimoehala, 19, was one of three who died in that fiery SUV crash earlier this month near the Honolulu-bound entrance of the Wilson Tunnel on Likelike Highway. Condolences to the family. ...

KGMB-9's Angela Keen and her partner of seven years, Norm Tabije, are just back from a Bangkok visit. The health reporter was enjoying her anonymity until someone shouted her name when she was at the Mah Boon Krong mall, a seven-story-high marketplace double the size of Ala Moana Center. Turned out to be Paul Parke of Honolulu, who is part owner of an import furniture store near the 'Iwilei Costco. "Made my day," she said of the encounter, which proves it's a small world, after all. ...

A rep from NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars team was recently in Honolulu and called The Mountain Apple Co. with two requests: New CDs by the late Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole to replace their worn-out originals, plus Iz T-shirts in Iz sizes, like 4X.

The shirts are not normally available (and one wonders why not), so Mountain Apple called the manufacturer to place a special order for the Jags so the team members can share their aloha spirit on the Mainland. ...

The Travel Channel taped part of the Don Ho tribute, "An Evening of Aloha," last Sunday at the Hawai'i Theatre, for the "Hawaii FAQ" show. Air dates are pending. ...

NAME-DROPPING: When jazz pianist David Benoit was in town for a pair of Honolulu Symphony Pops concerts, he stayed at the Halekulani, and promised to take his 4-year-old daughter to the hotel's Easter egg hunt the morning after his last performance at Blaisdell Concert Hall. Despite a late night the Saturday before Easter, he got up early for the hunt. And thanked hotel g.m. Fred Honda for another memorable visit — this time as a dad. ...

Many familiar faces (and voices) will be selling Kids Day editions of The Advertiser today. Look for Michael W. Perry and Larry Price, with Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona, in front of the state Capitol. Justin Cruz will be at Honolulu International Airport, Mike Buck will be at Dole Cannery, Charlie Garrett, Dave Lancaster and Kim Harper at Ward Entertainment Complex. Numerous others — Hawaiian Ryan and his Grandma, Brickwood Galuteria, Lee Cataluna, Alicia Michioka-Jones, The Society of Seven Las Vegas, and other radio and TV personalities have joined the cause. ...

And that's Show Biz. ...
