Not-guilty plea in stabbing and fire

A Kailua man accused of slashing his mother and his aunt and setting his family's Kainui Drive home on fire April 5 pleaded not guilty in Circuit Court yesterday to murder charges.

Circuit Judge Richard Perkins set a tentative trial date of June 28 for Micah White, although that date will likely be set back. White's mother, Kerry White, 48, and her sister-in-law, Sharon White, 58, were critically injured in the blaze. Sharon White died April 14.

Micah White remains at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $300,000 bail.


Man charged in pool-hall stabbing

Authorities have charged a 36-year-old man with stabbing another man at a billiards parlor at 1334 Young St.

Jin Woo Chong, who has no permanent local address, is charged with attempted murder. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The injured man, 41, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center Friday with a stab wound to the stomach, according to a police report. He was in fair condition at Queen's.

According to the report, Chong and the man were fighting in a parking lot at 1334 Young St.


Body found in Honolulu Harbor

Police are trying to identify a body found floating in Honolulu Harbor yesterday.

At about 7 a.m., workers at Pier 14 noticed the body of a man in the water off the pier. The workers retrieved the body with a boat and called police.

Police said the body had been in the water for several hours and that there was no visible cause of death. Police said the man was in his 20s.


Elderly pedestrian critically injured

An elderly man was critically injured when he was struck by a car yesterday while walking along Diamond Head Road. Police said the man was walking near the 3700-block of Diamond Head Road at about 5 p.m. when he was hit. He suffered head injuries and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

Police closed Diamond Head Road from the lookout to Fort Ruger Park for more than three hours while they conducted their investigation.
