Boy booked on forgery chargePolice yesterday charged a 14-year-old boy as a juvenile with first-degree forgery in connection with a ring that was printing and circulating counterfeit money earlier this year Kane'ohe.
The boy, who was being held at the Alder Street youth detention facility on unrelated criminal offenses, was booked on the forgery charge at 4:45 p.m. at the main police station cellblock and returned to the juvenile facility.
He is the third and final suspect charged in the counterfeiting case, said Lt. Pat Tomasu, supervisor of HPD financial fraud investigations. Two other boys, 14 and 17, were charged with first-degree forgery in January.
Police said the ring gave counterfeit $20, $10 and $5 bills totaling several hundred dollars to younger children, told them to spend the fake money at shopping malls and get change.
Man found dead in harbor identified
The medical examiner’s office today identified the man whose body was found floating in Honolulu Harbor near Pier 14 on Monday as Ruben Kimura, 25. Kimura had no permanent local address.
Details on the cause of death were not released.
