Parachutist hurt in landing
An Army parachutist suffered minor injuries yesterday after landing in a tree at the edge of a Wahiawa neighborhood.
The 33-year-old woman was among five jumpers dropping into the East Range of Schofield Barracks, said Capt. Kenison Tejada, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman. Firefighters were called at 12:51 p.m.
Although the woman's parachute got tangled in the tree near Karsten Drive, the branches broke and she fell 10 feet. Paramedics took her to Wahiawa General Hospital in good condition.
The jumpers belonged to Special Operations Command, Pacific Headquarters, said Marine Maj. Guillermo Canedo, a spokesman for the U.S. Pacific Command.
