UH honors scholar-athletes

The University of Hawai'i honored 131 scholar-athletes yesterday at its annual Scholar-Athlete Breakfast at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Each honoree earned at least a 3.0 GPA and lettered in their respective sport during the 2003-2004 season.

The following scholar-athletes earned top team honors:

Baseball: Richard Olsen. Men's basketball: Michael Kuebler. Women's basketball: Trisha Nishimoto. Cheerleading: Douglas Hussey. Cross country: Carolyn Berger. Football: David Gilmore. Men's golf: Matthew Kodama. Women's golf: Allie Rowe. Sailing: Lindsay Peters. Soccer: Joelle Sugai. Softball: Tracie Uchima. Men's swimming & diving: Kurt Boehm. Women's swimming & diving: Ying Juan Zhen. Women's tennis: Kimberly Curtis. Track & field: Carolyn Berger. Men's volleyball: Eric Kalima. Women's volleyball: Melody Eckmier. Water polo: Amber Lumb.

TENNIS

• Burwash speaks: World-renowned tennis coach and former Hawai'i resident Peter Burwash will be featured at a free lecture today, organized by The Vegetarian Society of Hawai'i.

The talk will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the University of Hawai'i's Kuykendall Auditorium (No. 101).

Burwash's theme will be "Maximizing Your Potential Through Diet & Exercise." Topics will include dealing with stress through better nutrition and exercise and why men and women put on weight differently. Free food samples will be given.

Burwash is an author, former Davis Cup champion and founder and president of Peter Burwash International, the world's largest tennis management company.
