American plans flight to Tokyo

American Airlines is planning to offer nonstop service between Honolulu and Tokyo.
The airline, based in Fort Worth, Texas, has asked the U.S. Department of Transportation for seven weekly roundtrip flight frequencies between the United States and Japan in order to start the nonstop service, it said in a news release.
American will apply for slots at Narita Airport as soon as the DOT responds, the airline said.
American already flies to Tokyo from Los Angeles, San Jose, Calif., Dallas, Chicago and New York's Kennedy Airport.
State officials this week said the number of Japanese visitors to Hawai'i appears to be on the rise.
$225 million in state bonds sold
The state yesterday sold $225 million of general obligation bonds at an interest rate of 4.54 percent.
The rate is among the state's lowest and follows favorable credit reviews from rating agencies.
