Kimono, mochi, flying carp windsocks — it looks like Kodomo no Hi, the Keiki Fun Fest, is coming. The free all-day Children's Day event at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i starts at 10 a.m. Sunday, Information: 945-7633.


Chocolate salute

Island Princess is giving military families a chocolate fix for Mother's Day. Moms and spouses with family members serving in Iraq will get a free box of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts at the factory retail outlet through May 7. The outlet is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, near the airport at 2846 Ualena St., off Lagoon Drive; 839-5222, ext. 214.


Dress-up doggies

Wanted: pooches with panache for the 3rd annual Doggie Model Search, by Island Paws and Hawai'i Doggie Bakery & Gift Shop. Organizers are looking for a new furry face to represent one of the island's best-known dog boutiques and bakeries. To enter, drop off a photo of your pooch wearing any Island Paws aloha shirt or mu'umu'u, at Hawai'i Doggie Bakery & Gift Shop by May 1; one photo entry per dog. Details: 521-7297.


Artsy 'metro mingling'

It's the final Friday of the month, and that means pau hana at the Academy of Arts, where it's springtime in Paris. ARTafterDARK, a group of young professionals trying to give the museum a hip edge, is hosting "metro mingling" with a Parisian twist. From 5 to 9 tonight, there will be wine-tasting, hors d'oeuvres, entertainment and a chance to see the blockbuster exhibit "Japan & Paris: Impressionism, Postimpressionism, and the Modern Era." Admission is $7 (free to art-museum members). Admission to "Japan & Paris" is $15 and includes museum admission.
