Mark gets life without parole in Gaspar shooting

By Ken Kobayashi
Advertiser Courts Writer

A state judge this afternoon sentenced Shane Mark to a life prison term without possibility of parole for the shooting murder of police officer Glen Gaspar at an ice cream parlor at the Kapolei Shopping Center March 4 last year.

Mark, 29, was convicted of second-degree murder which normally carries a sentence of life with parole, but Circuit Judge Karen Ahn imposed the state's harshest sentence because of Mark's criminal history and the nine felonies he committed in the shooting at Kapolei and a shooting at a church parking lot about a month earlier.

Ahn imposed other prison terms ranging from life with parole to five years for his other convictions, but they will run at the same time as the life without parole term.
