UH forming student spirit sections

The University of Hawai'i-Manoa is forming a new student spirit section for sports events called the "Manoa Maniacs," the athletic department announced today.The spirit section, which will be open to students from all UH system campuses, is part of a new five-pronged marketing effort backed by a series of presenting sponsors.
Students can purchase tickets in the football booster section beginning Aug. 9. Areas for students will be designated at all UH events. Students in those areas will be eligible to receive t-shirts, premium items and merchandise discounts.
Other efforts include:
A re-designed athletic department Web site (hawaiiathletics.com) that was launched today.
Weekly e-mail newsletters "H-Mail" to inform fans about upcoming events and promotions. Fans can register on the UH Web site.
A "UH Kids Club" open to children ages 6-14. Members receives T-shirts and discounts.
The previously announced alcohol-free "family zone" for UH football games. Special contests, giveaways and activities will be tailored toward kids.
