ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Aloha Festivals ribbons on sale starting today

Advertiser Staff

Those familiar Aloha Festivals ribbons go on sale today for $5 each as the state prepares to kick off the six-week, six-island annual cultural celebration. The festival of music, dance and history is intended to preserve Island traditions. For 58 years, the Aloha Festivals organization has sold ribbons to support the festival. This year's ribbon features the 2004 logo and theme "No Na Kamali'i (For the Children)." The ribbons can be purchased statewide at select Hilo Hattie stores, 7-Eleven stores, Safeway stores and Hawaiian Airlines ticket offices, or at www.alohafestivals.com. The ribbons entitle bearers to discounts at participating restaurants and retailers, such as Baskin-Robbins and Waikele Premium Outlets on O'ahu.

HAPPENING

'North Shore' hotel a mix of locations

Tourists want to know: Where exactly is that gorgeous hotel featured in the Hawai'i-based Fox drama "North Shore"?

Turns out scenes at the fictional Grand Waimea are actually shot at different places. Pool and beach shots are done at Turtle Bay Resort, exteriors are shot at Ko Olina Resort & Marina, and the rest at the show's soundstage at the Hawai'i Film Studio. Check it out at 7 tonight on Fox.

FINAL WORD

Teresa Heinz Kerry | answering a Time magazine query about her privileged life.

"People expect me to have angel's wings. ... They don't expect me to do my own shopping, to cook, to take care of my kids. ... And I do."
